Overcoming Burnout Part II: Unveiling the Hidden Catalysts:

Exploring the Three Underlying Themes of Burnout!

  1. Skillset: The concepts from Goldsmith's book What Got You Here Won't Get You There suggest that the skills needed to lead teams successfully aren't necessarily why you were promoted. Being a technical expert doesn't automatically make one a productive and satisfied leader.

  2. Toxic behavior: We perpetuate toxic behaviors by accepting poor character due to technical abilities. This results in prioritizing skill over respect. Remember, skills can be taught, but character and behavior require willing participants. Hire based on character using behavior-focused questions.

  3. Happiness: We often assume responsibility for others' happiness. Feeling safe or happy is linked to how people connect approval to their sense of worth and safety, influenced by the narratives we create for ourselves.
